Sustainability

Sustainability. What actually is sustainability and what does it mean to act sustainably? And how does GVB-geliMED try to integrate sustainability into its working life?

In our everyday language, we associate the term sustainability with longevity and environmental protection. Sustainability and sustainable development refers to the responsible use of the finite resources of our earth. So it means sharing something, passing something on, this is sustainable behavior. Because this way less has to be produced and grown. It saves not only raw materials and other resources, but also climate-damaging CO2. We all know, so that our image of the future can become reality: An intact environment, the preservation of biodiversity, little consumption of resources and a high quality of life for people WE are needed.

We all know the 10 things you can do for the environment in your everyday life, such as saving water, turning off the faucet, taking a short shower instead of a bath, ventilating for two to three hours, switching off electrical appliances or avoiding batteries, and more. But we as GVB-geliMED, have asked ourselves the question, what can we do as a company for the environment?

We as a company consume a lot of electricity, whether in sales, in the warehouse or in production, almost everything is run by machines and the computers run all day. That's why we decided to go solar, photovoltaic - we get our electricity from renewable sources.

Switching to photovoltaics reduces CO2 emissions. The Federal Environment Agency has calculated that a photovoltaic system avoids slightly more than 0.6 kilograms of CO2 per kilowatt hour of electricity over its entire lifetime compared to conventional electricity.

We need to change the way we produce and consume goods. Our first step in the right direction - we produce in europe. And we really produce in Europe! For us, "Made in Italy" or even "Made in Germany" doesn't just mean that we repackage or refine the product. No, our production facilities are located in Genoa and Battipaglia and we also source our raw materials from Europe. We try to shorten the production routes, for example to avoid air transport. Which means we do without harmful emissions such as carbon dioxide. We minimize energy and emission-intensive transport routes! Through short transport routes, we avoid long truck trips and thus keep CO2 emissions low.

Not only that, for the sake of the environment, our cartons are used multiple times. We receive goods in them and reuse them again. We use ecological packaging material such as packing paper instead of styrofoam, which is not biodegradable and recycling is only partially possible. Furthermore we are looking for ecological adhesive tape with which we could close our packages and produce our labels. We are trying to gradually replace our plastic packaging with recyclable paper. All this is imagined to be easier than it is nowadays. Just because of regulatory guidelines that have to be met, or the price war that is being waged. We want our prices to remain fair and still do some good. Something like this takes time, but the first steps in the right direction have been taken and the conditions are being created.

Waste separation, the be-all and end-all. Waste separation is enormously important, sensible and does not fail to have an effect.

The better we succeed in separating waste correctly and avoiding misdirected waste, the more material can be recycled. This is because the sorting plants can only work properly if the waste is separated correctly. If more packaging is collected and recycled, less waste remains that has to be disposed of in waste incineration. By separating waste correctly, consumers actively contribute to saving CO2 . After recycling, the materials are available again for industry and production. They are given a new lease of life and find new uses, for example, as flooring, bottles, car interiors, envelopes, drainpipes or fleece jackets. Therefore, all GVB-geliMED employees are trained and know exactly what belongs in which waste.

Our motto: Safe for the patient - Safe for the planet

Our motto: Safe for the patient - Safe for the planet.

So what can we do for the patient? How can we protect the patient? How can we prevent the direct or indirect transmission of germs or other substances to humans and thus stop cross-contamination? The answer is "single-use products " - products that are disposed of after their use and are not reprocessed, cleaned and disinfected. In these processes, germs or substances can persist on the medical devices and be transferred to patients. But don't "single-use" products also mean MORE waste? Basically, YES. That's why we've been thinking: How can we produce disposable products in an environmentally friendly way? Our answer is SafePrep, the first environmentally friendly disposable abrasive skin preparation gel for skin preparation. Not only is the product's packaging made of recyclable paper, but the ingredients are also environmentally friendly. Dye-free to reduce the risk of allergy irritation for the patients with sensitive skin. Ideal for treating patients with challenging skin conditions that require regular monitoring. With this product, we not only want to do something for the environment, we also want to make a change to something proven and make electroencephalography better and more sustainable.

Basically, we can say about ourselves and our products that we have been certified according to ISO 13845 management system since 2002. Moreover, we do not put any of our medical products on the market without CE mark, which stands for the fact that our products are not only safe, but also medico-technically efficient within the scope of their intended purpose.

We have our management system audited and validated annually. We can demonstrate that our company complies with the RoHS directives, this is for patient safety but also represents that we have chosen to be environmentally conscious in our business, to avoid waste and to use environmentally friendly packaging.

Let's go "green" together!

Let's go "green" together!

This is what our partners can do together with us for the environment:

Place call-off orders and collective orders.

Why call orders?

Not only is it less time consuming and a cost reduction, it also means we can save resources. Machines do not have to be started up unnecessarily for 1-2 packaging units and we as a manufacturer can better calculate the production quantity. The risk of overproduction will decrease and therefore there will also be a reduction in waste. Because products that have an expiration date must be disposed of after expiration.

In conclusion, "There is no Planet B" - for us and our future.

Contact us to share your ideas, concerns and problems that prevent you from being greener in your daily practice.

Why collective orders?

Often, as a company, we have to ship goods to the same delivery address several times a week. Which means that much more CO2 is pushed into the environment than if a weekly delivery would be arranged. Furthermore, packaging material can be saved. Disadvantage of collective orders? The delivery time is extended. But here the user is asked, if orders are placed in time, there will be no shortage of stock. We as a supplier can also ensure that orders that need to be delivered in different departments are marked in one package. Another advantage besides the environmental aspect is the freight costs that can be saved.

25 years of GVB-geliMED

In September 2019 GVB- geliMED celebrated its 25th company anniversary. Originally born from an evening idea, the name composed of the founders- Geiselberger and Liebe, initially only as an additional mainstay, in addition to the full-time of both founders thought, developed very dynamically a company that at the time filled a niche independent of equipment manufacturers and was served by only 3 people.

25 years later - where have the years gone - a company, internationally active, renowned and recognized in its field, 15 active and committed employees further, an anniversary celebration with international guests who are more friends than guests. The celebration was held in a delightful, beautiful country restaurant, on an old estate in SH, organized and perfectly designed by the daughter Mr. Romins and Mrs. Geiselberger and her best friend, who has changed professionally to GVB- geliMED.

It was a lavish, beautiful, emotional celebration that I hope will be remembered fondly by all involved.
